First portrait

I have been very scared for a while about doing portraits, mainly because I'm not so clued up on different shadings yet.
I tried to keep lining to a minimal on my portrait, so I only lined what was completely black and crisp, and the rest is just built up with a light, medium and dark wash.
Tell me what you think! The first picture is from when it was just completed, and the second is 2 days after- so you can see the slight scab on top.

I must admit it's strange seeing it as a whole piece, as whilst tattooing it, I was focusing on each small area, rather than a whole picture, I almost forgot it was a person, lol.

Boyfriend

I'm always planning tattoos for my boyfriend, and here is one that I took a while to design for him, to go with the first tattoo I did on him (the rose in memory of his Nan).
I drew a weeping lady (traditional american stylish) with more roses (I love rose tattoos!)
Here is it so far, we do short sittings on this when we have time.
Tell me what you think!

Ongoing cover up

This is a piece I have done 2 sitting so far in this photo, and I have another 2 or so to go I'm guessing. Design is by me :) Let me know what you think of it so far!

Cover up koi

This is a cover up that I have done a couple months ago. It's one of my first major cover ups and it took about 3 hours.
Please comment :)

Job lot

Right, because I've already been tattooing a year, I'm going to put all of my older tattoos in this one post, with captions. Most of these tattoos are now done with a Stealth rotary machine, as I felt that coil machines were just too heavy for me. The stealth is lighter and smoother running. It is good for lining and soft shading, but poop for colouring. So I recently also bought the Jackhammer machine. It is fab for colouring, but don't like it so much for shading or lining. It's definetly living up to its name, although it seems to work so hard that it's shaking itself apart. It goes through grommits (nipples) like every hour or so!
Anyway, below is a collection of some of the tattoos I have done over the past year.

I can't really remember what order I did these in, so they are random! :)

My second ever tattoo, on my boyfriends upper thigh, took about 4 hours again in total.

Lining of a half sleeve for my mate, Bez. Apologies for the crap photography! Took about 3 hours. Design is a picture he chose out of a tattoo mag.

 Name, top of the back.
Some of the lining was a pain to do as the skin was very soft and baby like (?) and the ink just didn't want to go in! Writing designed by me :)

Back of the calf piece for Tom. Took about 4 hours. Design was by Tom and Myself.

Some crazy freehand tribal going on here on Arran. Outline with a 9 round.

Tribal on inside arm, on Rob.

Betty boop pose on Carol, took about 2 hours. Pose designed by myself :) I wasn't really sure if I houls have put white in the eyes, but i decided against it as it might have made her eyes pop out a little too much.

Small design on the foot, took about 20 mins.

Design on the foot on Sarah. Took about 25 minutes, designed by myself. Her first tattoo which she sat well for!!

 Tattoo on my Mummy :)

 Sarahs second tattoo :D

It is hard tattooing in the neck, it's and awkward place, I also find it hard getting the ink in sometimes.

Gaz sat very well for this tattoo, this is the second time I've tattooed on the ribs, and I've been vary wary of it, because people tend to move alot, as it hurts a hella lot. Gaz sat like a dream though!

Medusa! I enjoy doing unusual tatoos, this was done in about 3 ish hours.

First piece of the back on Rhian. Designed by me :)
Second piece of a back piece. I have just finished the bottom in this photo. The rose was already there.

 Bez's half sleeve shaded.

Some nice writing on the leg!

A cover up of some dodgy stars.

Henna inspired design on my cousin Bernie :)

Cover up on my mummy :)
Rose tattoo on Carolines foot. It's so simple but it's one of my favourites! I love roses.

First tattoo.

My first tattoo was one I did on my boyfriend, a rose and scroll in memory of his Nan.
I designed the tattoo myself :) it took me 4 hours to do, and I was so nervous. I found that my new tattoo machines, then, were very heavy, and I felt as though they were gonna slip backwards out of my hand! They were coil machines. I definetly had handache after this one:

Introduction

Hi! Thank you for visiting my blog. My name is [Miss] Rie and I am using this blog to record my progress as I learn to tattoo.
I have been practising tattooing for a year now, and I am currently an appretice at Skin Sensation tattoo studio in Cwmbran, South Wales. After finishing uni up here in South Wales, I happened to be printing some artwork at a printing shop in Cwmbran, where I was then offered the apprenticeship after Mark Workman (owner of Skin Sensation) saw my work, and here I am now!
I hope in the future, to be a full time tattooist and have my own shop.
I hope that you enjoy viewing my work, and please leave comments if you visit :)
